Family cycling along the Soča River will take you to the most interesting corners of the Central Soča Valley. The tour takes side roads without major climbs, especially suitable for families with children over 10 years of age.

For a lot of visitors, Soča is one of the most amazing rivers in Europe. It is especially popular amongst people who enjoy fishing, rafting, canoeing and other outdoor activities.

Slovenia is easily accessible as it is well-connected with the European network of motorways, railway lines and airports. More info on Getting To and Around Slovenia

By car:

Slovenia is easily accessible and offers a good network of roads. Across the Tauern-motorway (A10) to Villach, then forward on the motorway (A2) direction Tarvisio-Italy. From there you enter Slovenia on the road SS54 overpassing the Predil pass. In Slovenia you follow road 203 through Soča valley till you reach Tolmin.

By bus & train:

Bus: Slovenia is connected with the following bus companies Euro, Touring and Flixbus. The majority have a stopover in Jesenice or Bled. From there you can take a train to Most na Soči, which takes ca.1,5 Hours.

Train: several international trains arrive in Slovenia on a daily basis. The closest station is in Most na Soči. Train Station Most na Soči (ca. 4 km away from Tolmin) is directly on the railway connection München – Jesenice – Nova Gorica. From the train station, you can take a taxi, the local bus (pay directly to the driver) or contact us to organize private transportation (see table for prices).

By airplane:

Several airlines offer flights to Slovenia. Airport Ljubljana-Brnik (ca. 90 km away from Tolmin), Airport Venice Marco Polo (ca. 170 km), or Airport Ronchi Dei Legionari Trieste (ca. 70 km). Upon request, we can organize a transfer. More on To Slovenia by air.

Day 1: Arrival and a Round tour Tolmin

Arrival at your accommodation (hotel Dvorec 3*) in Tolmin. It is located approximately in the middle of Soča Valley, therefore it is a great starting point for cycling in all directions. Today you’ll be driving on a shorter stage from Tolmin through the confluence of river Soča and Tolminka. On the Round tour Tolmin you will visit the famous Tolmin Gorges with the Devil’s bridge and Dante’s cave. The Tolmin gorges are also the lowest and for many the beauties entry point into the picturesque Triglav National Park.

Day 2: Soča River from Tolmin to Kobarid

Today you can enjoy the beauty of pure and intact nature and the magnificent natural landscape around the emerald river. Following the stream of the Soča river, you will cycle through some picturesque villages till you come to Napoleon bridge in Kobarid. Take a short walk to the idyllic waterfall Kozjak and to the remains of trenches, caverns, firing ditches and bunkers from World War I. In Kobarid, there are many possibilities for you and your children to refill the batteries for the return to Tolmin. This stage can be shortened for 18 km by a private transfer (not included, price 40 Eur).

Day 3: A bike tour to river Idrijca

From the hotel, you cycle along the river Soča to Most na Soči, a small town sunbathing on the pier above the confluence of Soča and Idrijca. This is the home of the famous paddle wheeler Lucija. Take a ride with your family and explore the river with its captain, who tells you some legends about the river. If you want to explore a longer version, you can continue cycling on a literary trail through the valley of the river Idrijca. It is named after the Slovenian writer Ciril Kosmač. In Slap ob Idrijci you can cheer up your kids by swimming in the idyllic Idrijca River.
