On a total of 235 kilometers and almost 2,000 meters in altitude, you circle the mountain range that connects Austria and Slovenia. Various cycle paths and side roads with little traffic in the border region of Austria, Slovenia and Italy form the basis for the Karawanks Bike Circle. On the way you are along the Sava Cycle Path, the Ciclovia Alpe Adria, the Gailtal Cycle Path and on sections of the 5-star Drau Cycle-Path. The coexistence of the three nations, Austria, Italy and Slovenia, gives this region a unique blend of culture and cuisine. The stages are designed so that you can really experience the real Karawanks. Even the starting point, Kranjska Gora, is the most famous mountain resort in Slovenia. The shortest part of the route goes through Italy, where in Tarvisio you can feel the typical pulse of Friulian cities. On the Austrian part of the tour, you will admire the Karawanks from the north, perhaps the most impressive mountain is the Mittagskogel, which rises like a volcano above Lake Wörthersee. On the Seebergsattel you reach the highest point of the tour at 1248m above sea level. From here the Slovenian part of the tour starts. In the next two days, you will enjoy the Karawanks from the southern side. We recommend using E-bikes, gravel or road bikes.
