“Soča, you are a beautiful daughter of the mountains”. That is how the famous Slovenian poet Simon Gregorčič described the Slovenian river Soča, which impresses everyone with its emerald color and picturesque surroundings.

Its water flows across waterfalls, small waterfalls, and cascades as well as through narrow rocky gorges, and along the way, it has carved surprising canyons and pools. For a lot of visitors, Soča is one of the most amazing rivers in Europe. It is especially popular amongst people who enjoy fishing, rafting, canoeing, and other outdoor activities.

First you can settle in your accommodation (hotel Dvorec 3*) in Tolmin. It is located approximately in the middle of Soča Valley, therefore it is a great starting point for cycling in all directions. Today you’ll be driving on a shorter stage from Tolmin through the confluence of river Soča and Tolminka. On the Round tour Tolmin you will visit the famous Tolmin Gorges with the Devil’s bridge and Dante’s cave. The Tolmin gorges are also the lowest and for many visitors the most beautiful entry point into the picturesque Triglav National Park.

Day 2: Bovec - Tolmin

Morning transfer to Bovec. A small town in upper Soča Valley is a great starting point for outdoor activities. Especially popular are rafting, kayak and canoe, canyoning, etc. Our tour goes along the Soča River to Kobarid and finished in Tolmin. This is the most beautiful part of the Soča River because it offers a lot of rapids and pools. Along the way, you can also admire the Boka waterfall with the biggest flow rate in Slovenia and the idyllic Kozjak waterfall. In Kobarid, you can learn more about the history of the 1st. WW and try local cuisine.

Route detail: length ca. 37 km, ascent + 206m /descent  – 474m

Day 3: Nova Gorica-Kanal-Tolmin

The first part of the journey will lead you from Tolmin to the town Most na Soči. We take a train to Nova Gorica, known as Slovenian Las Vegas. We highly recommend a visit to the tombs of the last Bourbons and a garden with Bourbon roses in Kostanjevica monastery (optional). After a short stroll and a coffee in the city of roses, you will cycle past the Solkan Bridge known for the longest stone arch in the world. Cycling on the new cycle lane along the Soča River brings us to the small town Kanal ob Soči, where we’ll enjoy the stunning view of the famous bridge, from which every year a diving competition takes place.
