Day 1: Arrival at Cavtat
Day 2: Konavlje and the Bay of Kotor
Our tour begins in the Konavlje Valley, rich of vineyards and small villages. We won’t miss the Konavlje water-mills in the idyllic landscape of the River Ljuta. The route offers spectacular views above the azure deep sea and rich vegetation. After crossing the border with Montenegro, finish this part of our trip in Herceg Novi, referred to as ‘the town of stairs, mimosas and writers’. Later, after checking-in to our hotel, a guided tour through the sights of Herceg Novi is offered. Overnight stay in Herceg Novi.
Route detail: ca. 43 km, + 500 m.
Day 3: Herceg Novi – Luštica - Tivat
In the morning, we’ll cross the Bay of Kotor by boat to reach the Lustica peninsula and a mystique Blue cave. The entire peninsula of Lustica is famous for its beautiful beaches, olive oil and prosciutto production. We’ll indulge in a tasty lunch on the Žanjica beach and maybe take a refreshment in the sea. We continue with a cycling tour past the natural bird reserve Solila to Tivat, known as Montenegrin Monte Carlo, where we overnight.
Route detail: ca. 35 km, + 680 m.
Day 4: Tivat - Virpazar
After a short transfer, including a stop at the famous island of Sveti Stefan, we reach the former Montenegrin capital of Cetinje. Today’s stage will reveal the true face of Montenegro, the wild beauty, where you will be able to challenge your cycling skills for the first time on this journey. On the way, we can enjoy the views of the unique mountain before we reach Lake Skadar, the largest lake in the Balkans, proclaimed a national park in 1983. The lake boasts 50 islands; some of them housing old strongholds and monasteries. Overnight stay in Virpazar.
Route detail: ca. 36 km, + 420 m.
Day 5: Boat trip on the Skadar lake
This region offers a welcome resting place for the migratory birds on their journey to the south. We take a half-day boat trip through this natural paradise with boat Milica. There is a big possibility that we see pelicans, among other bird species living on the lake. In fisherman’s village, we’ll enjoy lunch at the local family. Overnight stay in Virpazar.
Day 6: Virpazar - Rijeka Crnojevića - Cetinje
Today’s leg will take us from Virpazar along the coastal road by Lake Skadar. At some points the road ascends; however, our efforts will be rewarded with perhaps the most beautiful panoramic views of the entire tour. The road takes us to an extremely attractive spot, called Pavlova Strana, where the River Crnojevića bends around a hill and creates one of the most popular photo attractions in Montenegro. From Rijeka Crnojevića to Cetinje we can drive by support vehicle or discover the last 20 km/12 mi. and 700 m of elevation/2296 ft by bike. Cetinje is the former metropolis of Montenegrin kings with a great number of palaces and embassies. Today, the city houses the official residence of the Montenegrin president. In the afternoon, we have organized sightseeing, followed by dinner and an overnight stay.
Route detail: ca. 32 km, + 630 m or ca. 47 km, +1,380 m.
Day 7: Cetinje – Lovčen - Kotor
A short morning transfer to Lovčen National Park with Njegoš Mausoleum at the Peak of Jezerski vrh, 1,600m above sea level. From there, an amazing view of Montenegro opens up, from the coast, over Lake Skadar, to the peaks of Durmitor. What comes next is a spectacular downhill ride to the Bay of Kotor along an old winding Austro-Hungarian road. Owing to its 2,000-year history and incredible location, the old town of Kotor has been listed by UNESCO as a cultural heritage site. Surrounded by the rocks of Lovčen and Orjen, the Bay of Kotor creates one of the most magnificent scenes in the Mediterranean. Here, a guided city tour is offered and you may end the day with a leisurely walk through town and visit one of the numerous cozy cafès or bars.
Route detail: ca. 39 km, + 240 m, downhill ride of 1,800 m.
Day 8: Kotor
The last cycle tour leads along the bay of Kotor until reaching the ferry in Kamenari. We cross the impressive bay of Kotor for the last time and board the shuttle bus on the other side. It will take us back to Croatia, where we stop at one of the most popular restaurants in the area. We have only a few more kilometers by bike until the end of this unforgettable bike journey.
Route detail: 28 km, + 400m.
