“Soča, you are the beautiful daughter of the mountains”. That is how the famous Slovenian poet Simon Gregorčič described the Slovenian river Soča, which impresses everyone with its emerald color and picturesque surroundings.

Its water flows across waterfalls, small waterfalls, and cascades as well as through narrow rocky gorges, and along the way, it has carved surprising canyons and pools. For a lot of visitors, Soča is one of the most amazing rivers in Europe. It is especially popular amongst people who enjoy fishing, rafting, canoeing, and other outdoor activities.

Day 1: Arrival in Tolmin

First you can settle in your accommodation (hotel Dvorec 3*) in Tolmin and have a little rest. Tolmin is located approximately in the middle of Soča Valley, therefore it is a great starting point for cycling in all directions.
2

Day 2: Round tour Tolmin

Today you will visit the most beautiful places near Tolmin, like the confluence of river Soča and Tolminka and the famous Tolmin Gorges with the Devil’s bridge and Dante’s cave. The Tolmin gorges are also the lowest and for many the beauties entry point into the picturesque Triglav National Park. More demanding cyclists will be able to climb to the Memorial Church of the Holy Spirit in Javorca plateau, bearing the stamp of European Cultural Heritage – additional 15km of cycling.

Route detail: ca. 13 km, + 120 m / – 120m; with Javorca ca. 28 km, + 725m / – 725m

Day 3: Nova Gorica-Kanal-Tolmin

The first part of the journey will lead you from Tolmin to the town Most na Soči. There you’ll take a train to Nova Gorica, known as Slovenian Las Vegas. We highly recommend a visit to the tombs of the last bourbons and a garden with bourbon roses in the Kostanjevica monastery. After a short stroll and a coffee in the city of roses, you will cycle past the Solkan Bridge, which is known as the longest stone arch in the world. Cycling on the new cycle lane along the Soča River you will arrive at the small town Kanal ob Soči. There you will be able to enjoy the stunning view of the surrounding nature and the famous bridge from which every year a diving competition takes place.

Route detail: ca. 43 km, + 609m / – 485m

Day 4: Bovec-Tolmin

Morning transfer to Bovec. A small town in upper Soča Valley is a great starting point for outdoor activities. Especially popular are rafting, kayak and canoe, canyoning, etc. Our tour goes along the Soča River to Kobarid. This is the most beautiful part of Soča’s path to the Sea because it offers a lot of rapids and pools. It truly is a beautiful sight to behold. Along the way, you can also admire the waterfall Boka with the biggest flow rate in Slovenia, and the idyllic waterfall Kozjak.

Route detail: ca. 37 km, + 206m / – 474m

Day 5: Kolovrat-Goriška Brda-Gorica-Tolmin

Morning transfer to Kolovrat mountain, where you can visit the Outdoor museum of I. WW. You will slowly descend towards Goriška brda. Behind your back, Julian Alps salute you and in front enjoy the panoramic view of the picturesque hills and the Friuli region. You are greeted by the Julian Alps behind you and magnificent panoramic views of the surrounding hills and the Friuli plain. In Brda, you can enjoy a glass of wine and some of the typical Brda dishes with stunning views of wine-growing hills. The plain follows through vineyards to Gorizia, a border town with a rich history and architecture. A wander around the city is followed by a train ride from Nova Gorica to Most na Soči and short cycling back to Tolmin.

Route detail: ca. 53 km, + 639m / – 1615m

An unpretentious and scenic circular path takes us around a 650 m high Senica hill, which offers a magnificent view of the emerald Soča and the Krn and Kanin mountains. In the village of Ljubinj we can decide on a more demanding ascent along the macadam path to the top of Senica, from which a magnificent view of the valley and mountains opens. Continue along the regional road to Most na Soči, a small town sunbathing on the pier above the confluence of Soča and Idrijca. The place is one of the most important archeological sites in the Southeastern Alps. Next to the town, there is an accumulation lake, the home of the famous paddle wheeler Lucija. Five kilometers ahead we finish our tour in Tolmin.

Day 7: Tolmin-Robič with Nadiža River-Kobarid

You will ride from Tolmin towards Kobarid and forward to the Nadiža River. Nadiža is one of the warmest rivers in this part of the Alps, therefore it is perfect for those who want to have a swim in the most beautiful pools that nature has to offer. By the river you can observe the Napoleon bridge. The afternoon is reserved for sightseeing in Kobarid, the culinary center of the valley. We can visit the WW1 museum and enjoy local food and wine in any of the restaurants. In the end, it follows the last transfer to Tolmin, where the cycling tour in Soča Valley ends.
